The fixed glass panel has chat a crazed crack , hadn't been hit , would this be a manufacturing fault as I've heard that this sometimes happens on range rover and fords

    Yes, the original laminated glass sunroofs are prone to cracking, most likely through stress (movement or temp).

    Ford now supply only toughened glass. It is a very expensive repair/replacement but good news is most insurance policies will cover the cost (less a small excess) as part of their windscreen/glass cover.
