The fixed glass panel has chat a crazed crack , hadn't been hit , would this be a manufacturing fault as I've heard that this sometimes happens on range rover and fords

Just as well you have comprehensive insurance and you got the policy that included 'glass' breakage !! 👍

A lot of insurers don't cover the roof as glass.  Have to check the small print in each one.

To be honest a cracked (or even shattered) glass roof is a problem that many car models of different manufacturers can suffer from.

There can be different reasons for the glass roof to crack or shatter. For example:

- Impact damage. even a small stone at speed can have sufficient energy to damage the roof.
- Thermal stress. Especially if there are big temperature differences between inside the car and outside the car.
- Torsion. Every car body is subjected to torsion while the glass roof is extremely rigid. If the amount of torsion of the bodywork is higher than the glass can handle it will break.
- Manufacturing stress. During the production process of the glass roof stress is introduced inside the glass. This is unavoidable and can cause the glass to shatter without an obvious reason.


There is a reason why many insurance companies do no longer cover panoramic glass roofs.
