Oil pressure sensor

Featured Replies

I've recently purchased myself a little Fiesta 1.6 zetec S for a bit of fun. Sadly the oil pressure warning message has produced itself, much to my disappointment.

I'm after assistance on how to remove it so I can check to see if it's faulty. I can just about see it above the oil filter but I can't see a way of getting it out. Has anyone replaced one, is it a common problem 🤔

Thanks in advance

On a 1.6 engine not so common, but on the 1.0 Ecoboost it is to be expected.

If you drive it with low oil pressure even just for a few miles then the engine will most likely be scrap.

So.. is low oil pressure in a 2010 1.6 petrol a common issue 🤔

Is the sensor itself more likely to be the issue.

I've changed the oil and filter just for good measure but didn't make any difference.

Neither are a common issue on the 1.6.  Can you hear any rattling at all?

The oil pump is a major job on these, probably not worth the repair costs on this car in all honesty.  So it would be well worth trying to change the sensor if you can.  What's stopping you getting it out?

I must admit I have probably done around 30 miles i  the car with the oil pressure light on and off. I can clear the fault then drive a few miles then it comes on again. No rattles or nasty noises yet.

I can't even get my hand to it, i presume it's just above the oil cooler/filter. I can't get it from above and can only get my fingers to the plug. I wouldn't say I've got big hands either. Just wondering what I actually need to remove to get it out.

I don't think removing anything will be easier than just getting a socket extension and/or universal joint.  The AC pump might be slightly in the way but I wouldn't risk removing that as the bolts can snap quite easily.  You could remove the intake manifold to go in from the top but that's not a quick or easy job and you'd need to replace all the gaskets to avoid introducing a vac leak.  You might find it easier to get your arm in by removing the oil filter but I'm not convinced about that either.

Whilst it could be a faulty sensor I expect this is wishful thinking. Its job is to detect low ('too low') oil pressure and from what you've written there's no reason to suspect that isn't the case, particularly on a new-to-you car.

Have you checked/changed the oil? What condition was it in? Peering inside the valve cover (ideally taking it off) can also give a good indication of how clean the inside of the engine is.

My 2009 1.6 has just started showing this issue.  I have changed oil and filter and that sadly didn't help 😒

I was going to change the oil pressure switch/sensor at the same time but couldn't find it!  If it's where I think it is it's totally inaccessible, which is strange as Haynes says it's an easy job.

I'm only getting the warning at low revs/idle

I'm not really sure what to do next.  Have you resolved the situation?

Any ideas anyone?
