Have no halo cradle to put key in in steering coloum

just taken of the cover  on steering coloum where the ignition switch would be ( have start button )  and noticed i should have a cradle to put key into if the button fails or cant start the car any ideas as to why and what i can do please  this is on my grand C Max titanium 2015plate  also have a aftermarket key not a ford original
