Fiesta MK8 2021 Timing Chain Rattle

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I noticed a rattle coming from the top of the timing chain cover when I started the car after it had sat for a couple of days. The noise wasn't present on crank, and it went away after driving for five minutes.

I didn't notice anything after starting the next day after the vehicle had sat for 10 hours.

I can only find one video with the exact same noise, so I've linked it here.

The car only has 25k miles on the clock and has had regular services. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The timing chain tensioner is hydraulic.  If the oil has drained out after a long period without use, a bit of chain rattle is to be expected until it fills up again.

My fiesta is making a similar sound to what you describe. Could you make a video of it and post on here?
