Ford fiesta intermittent total loss of electrical power
By Snips39,

Hello everybody.  I have a problem and need some help please.  I was driving my 2017 Ford Fiesta 1.5 duratec diesel when i went over a cattle grid and temporarily suffered a total loss of electrical power. I mean everything went off. Radio, dashboard blank, rev counter and speedo went to zero. All of the warning lights momentarily illuminated then extinguished.

After a few seconds full electrical power was restored and I continued driving.

At the next cattle grid the same event occurred.

All the earth leads have been removed, cleaned and assembled to ensure good contact. The battery is 3 months old and all the connections are clean and tight.

Any suggestions as to the root cause please.

We need to confirm what engine you have. Is it a Duratec (petrol) or is it a Duratorq (diesel) ?

I would have expected that it would be either EcoBoost (petrol) or EcoBlue (diesel).

Hi and thanks for your question.

It's a 1.5 diesel.

Thanks for confirming that.

From what you have described, it sounds like the main 12V positive supply for the whole of the vehicle is being intermittently lost.

There are really only two probable locations where this could happen. First would be the main positive cable between the back of the alternator and the battery. Second would be a broken/cracked/loose Mega fuse in the high power battery junction box.

Do you have a digital multimeter ? If yes I can find you some wiring schematics for you to check.

Hi, yes I have a multimeter. The main dealer replaced my battery in Dec 24.

Would the battery replacement have disturbed the high power junction box.

Yes, and also the cable between the Battery and the Alternator.
