Fiesta Mk7 1.25l Tyre Pressure Warning!

Featured Replies

Hi There,

The misses has just bought a 3dr 2016 Fiesta Mk7 Zetec 1.25l and upon driving it home the tyre pressure warning is on the display in the middle. The pressures are fine in each wheel and a reset doesnt sort it, I plugged it into Forscan and can just see a generic: B124D - Tyre pressure sensor fault. I have only ever had older Fords so unsure if the car has sensors in the wheels or uses something else to find the pressures.

Has anyone had this before and could point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Josh

2016 Fiesta will have individual sensors...welcome to world of modern cars.

First check to see if any of the types are new or have fresh pothole damage.  You can make an educated guess that the fault will be with those.

If all tyres look used but decent then you'll need a radio frequency tester to check which one is no longer sending out the signal.  Forscan doesn't do it on older models unfortunately.

TPMS sensors have a life expectancy of between 7 and 10 years.

I guess the batteries are running out. Time for some new sensors 👍

She just bought it, so ill definitely get her jacked up and check the wheels/tyres. Have you had a frequency tester before or what do I search for online? Thanks Josh

I haven't needed one myself yet.  Others buy the orange one on Amazon for about a tenner, but they are car specific so you need the Ford version.

I would expect any tyre garage to have one and probably check for free if they're not busy.

The alternative is having all of the sensors replaced as Unofix suggests, but that can be expensive if you've just one faulty rather than all of the batteries dropping.

According to a Kwikfit write up on the subject,  TPMS became a legal requirement on new cars in the UK in 2012.  I can't find it in the menu on my 2014 Fiesta Titanium X.  Does this mean it hasn't got it?

My son's 2015 Passat has it and it has been a bit of a nuisance, flagging it up when there's no problem as it does when the windscreen washer fluid has used about an eggcupful.  These things are a mixed blessing in my opinion.  Better to do the old fashioned thing and check your car regularly!

Constant alarm messages make you ignore all of them.

That's only for new models released from 2012...Ford use 'facelifts' to get around legislation like this.

On a 2014 Fiesta, you probably still have the old DDS option using ABS, without any separate sensors, although it may not be enabled in the software.

Not new cars, but new car type approvals. A car designed and approved in 2010 with out TPMS, in theory could still be built and sold today with the original type approval.

I was told at my MOT that it was an MOT fail if the TPS light was on or had been reset. The garage quoted £400 to sort all the sensors on my car as none of them were transmitting. All had dead batteries, and the pressures were all correct.

I ended up buying a TPS Spoof Sensor for £40, it worked perfectly and sailed through the MOT!

Sounds like yet another money making scheme.

Thank you for the pic, so can this check to see if they are working and can they register new sensors to the system?

Thank you for that, I might invest in one anyway as no doubt its the future haha! I shall see what I can find out 👍

If this is a replacement for your 2005 Focus, then you need to update your profile.

If not already, then your 2016 Fiesta is going to need 4 new TPMS sensors very soon. If you look on eBay you can buy a set of 4 for about £40. An independent tyre garage will charge about £15 per wheel to fit.
