Fiesta electrical connection

Featured Replies

Hi I recently changed the gear linkage in my fiesta but whilst doing so I must’ve snapped of a electrical connection that looks like it’s going into the gearbox, now the car doesn’t start nor does the key work any help would be much appreciated thanks.

I am unable to attach any photos but the cable has a tag on it saying ACG and 85VT-12A522

Hi,

That part number is for the main engine loom, so hopefully you don't need to replace the whole thing.  (Although they can be picked up fairly cheaply from breakers yards).

The connector on the front of the gearbox is just for the reverse light switch, so that shouldn't prevent the engine starting even if it is broken.

I don't believe there is a neutral switch on a manual Mk7 Fiesta so wondering whether this is just a coincidence?  There could be an earth cable on the gearbox, but that won't have a plug, just a basic ring terminal.

When you say the key doesn't work, does it not even lock the doors now?  Is it possible the battery has gone flat while you were working on the car?

And yes the car doesn’t unlock/lock have to manually do it and there nothing working electrically wise in or out the car.

6.8v!?  That battery is totally dead.  Absolute minimum for the electrics to work is around 11v, the car won't start with less than about 11.8v.  Fully charged is 12.6v.

Quickest option now is to get a jump start.  Though you could try charging it overnight if you have a plug nearby.  You will need to 'fool' a modern smart charger as they won't charge 12v batteries from less than 10.5v.
