2007 Fiesta Diesel 1.4 Power Loss / Jerking

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I have had this car for a few years now which has never been very powerful. Now after a long journey or going uphill, basically pushing accellerator above 2000rpm it would jerk the odd time. This has now gotten a lot worse and the car is struggling up any hills and will jerk. It now jerks and stutters when idle (especially cold).

I have got fuel filter changed and driven it a few times since but problem does not seem to be improving. Mechanic said could need injectors looked at but understand its an expensive job if replacing.

On electric diagnostics also have a glow plug not working.

Almost 110,000 on the clock.

Any advice is much appreciated or if anyone has dealt with similar problems

In reality it could be a lot of things. Don't know exactly about 1.4 TDCI, coming from 1.6 TDCI. I had similar problems. You just have to check them all going from cheapest to more expensive. Just check MAF, air filter, air in fuel system (really sensitive these engines), EGR maybe stuck open/closed and needs cleaning, maybe the turbo itself. Just check them all and eventually you'll find something. Oh and also for me the glowplug relay has high voltage too. For me it's the ground wires under battery tray. And for rough idle when cold with a lot of blue smoke was the EGR. I just blanked it off. Worked like a charm.

Hope this helps.

I would start with air in fuel system and EGR.
