It's the "Auto Stop/Start" switch so you can turn the system OFF, but unfortunately then next time you start the car it will default back to on.

There are about 112 conditions that have to be correct before the system will operate. If for some reason those conditions are not met then the system will be disabled and the light will be on.

I'll check tomorrow when I get my Focus back from the paint shop. I might have the light operation the wrong way around.

I've just forgotten that's all.

On the BMWs the light is on when SS is (switched) off, mine is on all the time as I have coded SS off

In my limited experience of stop/start the light is usually illuminated when you've turned it off.

My switch is illuminated when the SS is off.

Stop/Start is illuminated when the system is OFF
