Driveshaft Oil Seals

Featured Replies

Hello,

Can someone tell me if the Ford F1805715 Driveshaft Oil Seal fits on a mk 7 2011 Ford Fiesta transmission?

I bought the seals from Ford Lookers, measures them and compared them with my old seals - outer diameter 55mm.

The seals don’t fit on either the RHS or LHS of the gearbox.

Tried everything and still no luck. I am going to get new seals this morning from a car parts shop if they have them in stock but I wanted to quadruple check in case I missed something.

Thank you!

If you checked they were the same diameter, what is preventing them from fitting?

The IB5 gearbox has used 55mm seals for decades, so they should be the right size.  This part number is for the upgraded version though, as the earlier versions used to leak.  You can read the TSB in the thread below, although that has also now been superseded.  Ford suggest a special tool is needed to fit the new type.  Though it doesn't look all that special to me.

Hi TomsFocus,

Thank you for the quick reply. They don’t fit at all no matter what I tried.
Upon close inspection the seals are f***ked.

I went to eurocarparts and got these instead but I’m still not satisfied they are the right parts:

Corteco 661590010

and

Corteco 661590260

The seals that I removed from the car look exactly like the ones I got from Ford Lookers.

I still don't understand what stopped the genuine ones from from fitting.  If it's 55mm seal and a 55mm hole, they should just go in.

If they're just fractionally too large then you can stick them in the freezer for 10 minutes to make them shrink slightly.  Make sure to lube them well afterwards if doing that as the rubber will be less pliable for fitting.

Autodoc suggests these are the compatible Corteco ones.  They don't seem to have the same part number as yours though.  Ultimately it doesn't matter as long as they aren't leaking now.

I went back to the dealership and they assured me they have given me the correct seals for the transmissions, both of them fit the LHS and RHS of the transmission.

They even replaced the seals with new ones. I spent a few hours tonight but I couldn’t fit them flush or even straight whilst I was underneath the car.

I don’t want to force them in and break them as they go in crooked every time.

I bought this set from amazon but again, it didn’t do much good.

It could be down to user error as this is the first time I’m fitting these seals and doing it in situ doesn’t help.
I tried small hammer, rubber mallet, big hammer, using a piece of wood, it won’t go in, pun intended 😅.

I have spent some time measuring the Genuine Ford and Corteco seals:

Left - Genuine Ford 55 mm x 10 mm no inward lip

Right - Corteco 55 mm x 8 mm with an inward lip

Can someone confirm which one is good for 2011 Ford Fiesta mk7?

Another member asked this question last year.  Looks like the originals were 8mm, and the upgraded part is 10mm.

I see you've already read & commented on their thread though.
