Biodiesel

Featured Replies

I have a 61 plate diesel C Max and wondered about switching over to biodiesel. Does anyone have any experience or input that they might like to impart.

For what reason ?

I was sorting of the mind that biodiesel is a lot cheaper but I'm not sure that's true after doing a bit of research. But anything you can add wound be appreciated

It's not very common, in fact I don't know of any where near me that would sell it.

Slightly less MPG with biodiesel, and not suitable for use by vegetarians 🤣

There seemed to be quite a lot of interest in this some years back, but things have gone pretty quiet recently.

I think Ford state that biodiesel is ok as long as it meets the EN 590 or equivalent standard.

As with petrol, the "bio" content of diesel has been increased quite a lot under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations and is now at 8% I think.

Don't know if many filling stations actually stock it nowadays, it seems to be mainly bulk supplies for transport companies.

I don't think it is cheap enough to be worth the hassle nowadays.  There is some around, but it's not well advertised, probably because supply is fairly limited.

If you use it on an old car you'll probably find the fuel filter needs replacing once or twice soon after.

Thank for you input guys that's made me think again and I'm just gonna give it a miss.

Agree, life for the HP  pump is hard enough and I'm unsure about the lubrication properties which EN590 meets (I use an additive to convert to Premium grade fuel, just in case but you may not)
