Electrical niggles.

Featured Replies

Hello. I’ve just bought a 66 reg Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost with 50k on the clock. I bit the bullet and had the cam belt renewed, so am hopeful that the car will now serve me well for the next 10 years with annual mileage around the 4k mark.

There are a few electrical niggles I’d like to resolve:

(1) Voice control doesn’t activate when I push the central button (in fact none of the peripheral controls work either).

(2) the front screen washer doesn’t operate when I push the relevant control, but it does when I operate the rear window washer control, ie both front and rear washers come on together!)

(3) the preset buttons on the radio seem a bit temperamental, sometimes requiring several pushes before they change the station. (Dirty contacts? How easy is it to reach them?)

It’s otherwise a good little car, my having got used to the way the turbo needs revs, ie not as flexible as my old Focus was at low revs.

Having received advice on the Focus from this forum in the past, I welcome further advice on my newest acquisition.

Thanks in advance.

Probably dirty contacts in the switches or the clock spring is faulty

It's had a replacement pump fitted and they have fitted the wrong one

Yep, probably dirty contacts again

Thank you Dave. I am on a learning curve here, regarding the clock spring. Am I right in thinking that the signals from the cruise control panel (which is functioning normally) would pass through it as well? If so, then wouldn't that indicate that the clock spring is not broken?

Any switches on the steering wheel pass their signals via the clock spring.

The clock spring circuit board consists of a number of individual circuits so it is quite possible to have the failure of one circuit and not affect the operation of other controls.

Thank you Unofix. I’m always happy to be educated. 👍🏻
