Sunroof and cambelt/chain

Featured Replies

Hi folks, my first post on here as a uk Edge owner, recently purchased a 2017 2.0 tdci sport in white with black pack kit and its manual, it has the full pan roof but really slow retract back again and sometimes keeps stopping when almost closed and fully opening again, I think the rails need re greasing possible which may help speed it up and ease pressure on the motor has anyone else had to do this?

also is this a cambelt it chain driven engine? We have had loads of smaxs with the 2.0 tdci engine which were belt driven, reading different online reports to what one is actually in the edge..

thanks for looking and any hints or tips would be appreciated.

Hi,

2017 will still be the old Duratorq engine with a dry belt.

It's the EcoBlue engine that has wetbelts, but that wasn't fitted to the Edge until 2018.

I don't have any experience with the roof issue so can't comment on that.

Cheers mate, deffo know it’s not wetbelt but conflicting reads about a Gates Belt or chain..,

It's technically both.  The 2.0 Duratorq engine has a small chain connecting the two camshafts.  It has been like that since 2004.  But this chain is so reliable that most people don't even realise.

The chain does not have a replacement interval, it is designed to last the lifetime of the engine.

The belt has a recommended interval of 10 years or 125k miles.

Hi All

Same scenario for my sunroof

Have not got round to looking at/sorting out, but would imagine it's just a case of lubrication, but not sure of best method of lubricating it

Happy Motoring

Use some 3 in 1 oil (Spray or oil), don't use WD40, it'll just collect more dirt & grit...

Spray silicone lube might be a good idea

It also keeps any Rubber parts in good condition.

Yes I will try the 3 in 1 oil thank you..

I had that sunroof issue around 6 years ago. Took it back to Ford while it was still under warranty and they said the sunroof rails needed adjusting. Whether thats whay they did I don't know. Around 3 years after that had the same issues so ended up buying this grease below and applying it to the rails that pop up. Have reapplied the grease once since then and haven't had any another issues since...

My sunroof/panoramic roof was OK. I did clean the running rails with cotton wool and greasing agent. Then re- lube with an sunroof runners lubricant from my local motor factor. I use.

de-greasing agent.
