Anyone know any diff's between 2008 & 2012 C-Max Titaniiums?

Featured Replies

I am looking for a second hand C-Max, I have seen one that is 2012 (1.6) the other 2008 (1.8), similar milage of between 92 (2008) and 103 (2012) thousand on both, both exact same cost and colour (black), but the 2008 has slightly better MOT results, only 1 fail overall and no current advisories, most previous advisories were for the tyres or brakes. Normally you would automatically go for the newer car probably but just out of interest, by default were there many differences between the 2 models ? Presuming no extras have been added outside of the default standard of course. Also the 2008 is from a garage so comes with some kind of warranty compared to private for the 2012 model. Both are petrol and manual. The 2012 I know comes with keyless start, not sure if that is a worthy bonus or not.

Can I also ask, on a non-Titanium model, they came with 16" wheels, but apparently Titaniums come with 17" wheels. For comfort and not cosmetic, is there much difference between the wheel sizes ? I prefer comfort over style.

Thanks everyone.

There is usually a difference between 16s & 17s with regard to comfort.  Focus Titanium's came with 16s on smaller engines (1.6 or smaller).  I did notice the difference when driving a Focus Titanium on 17s as ride comfort is my main requirement as well.  But as we keep saying, comfort is subjective, you need to drive the car yourself.

A 2012 C-Max will be a Mk2, so very different inside, more than just a facelift.  Mk2 Titanium gets Sony DAB radio, climate control and cruise control as standard.  (They were optional on the Mk1).

Push button start is a nice feature imo.  Feels more modern.  And as they don't also have keyless entry, not any easier to steal than a normal car.  (Keyless entry was also optional though, so this specific car might have it).

I had a 2013 Titanium X for a while, so on 17s. Ride seemed fine comfort wise to me and my wife, but as Tom says it's very subjective - as you can see from my present car firm ride doesn't bother us.

My main gripe was I didn't find it as versatile as expected - the rear seats were quite tricky to remove completely and just folding them down gave a pronounced step.

I must say overall I preferred the Mk 2.5 Focus I had previously.

Keyless start no big deal imo - you still need to put your key somewhere. Keyed start at least gives you a handy slot to put it in!😀

Presumably you put the key somewhere while you're not in the car between journeys?  Pocket?  Manbag?  Lanyard?

Must admit, keyless start is something that I actually miss from the Focus'.  The Golfs need to be started by shoving a keyblade in a hole and turning it, barely any different from a starting handle! :whistling:  Oddly, both Golfs have a different angle of key rotation as well.  The Mk7 is more awkward to start from muscle memory as the fob goes in horizontally rather than vertically which means your wrist is already twisted.  Very odd as usually VW are good with ergonomics (unlike Ford...).

Manbag? Come on!

Lanyard? Too much like being at work.

Pocket? Don't forget this is Yorkshire - deep pockets and short arms so hard to reach the key!

😀😀

Going back to being serious again. Don't know if the 2012 1.6 being considered is the normally aspirated version, or the 1.6 Ecoboost - the former may feel underpowered in the C-Max.

Personal opinion as always, but I felt the C-Max was best suited to a diesel, preferably a 2.0.

Thanks everyone. Out of curiosity how easy would it be to replace the 17" rims with 16" ones and what sort of cost ? I live near lots of pot holes and I am always the unlucky sod who goes over them, especially at night. Do I presume the Titanium is the same as the Zetec as far as shell and screw holes go, so it shouldn't be difficult to to change rims ?

Just a matter of sourcing some 16" C-Max or Focus wheels and buying suitable tyres (205/55x16 rather than 215/50x70 iirc).

Hard to price that, used wheels whatever you can  find on EBay etc, new tyres however much you want to pay, you can price them up on the web.

You could always try an ad in the Parts section on here - someone may want to swap the other way.

I personally wouldn't bother - the suspension is pretty soft and a 50 profile as on the 17s is not that  extreme these days. But as already said, it's subjective and we're all different.

There is a very useful resource on the Talkford site where you can download original brochures and comprehensive in detail, worth a look:

If you do change wheels, make sure they're ones for global nuts.  MK2 Focus and Mk1 C-Max used the older style nuts.

Wheels from around 2012 are likely to be compatible with both types of nut.

Mk3 Focus 16s were 215/55/16.  Mk2 Focus was 205/55/16.  I even noticed the difference in comfort swapping between those sizes.  (I kept the Mk2 wheels with nearly new tyres when I bought a Mk3).

I bet you'd notice a pea under your mattress!😀
