Towbar Electrics "small problem"

Featured Replies

I have now finished fitting the towbar and 13 pin electrics to my 2018 C-Max.

There is a small problem in that i'm getting no power to pin no8 (reversing light), and no power to pin no7 (left side tail light)

All the other lights work, also pin 9 & 10 also work to.

my rear parking sensors have to be turned off manualy and im getting no buzzer when the electrics are connected to the trailer for the indicators and the indicator is on.

The kits i have fitted are ECS FR063D1U & ECS SP135ZZ

Do i need this kit coded to the car to get pins no8 and no7 to work ?

Sorry to say Martin it sounds like it just isn't wired correctly.

  1. What type of connectors did you use to splice in to the vehicle wiring harness ?
  2. What type of 13 pin socket did you use ? Does it not have the microswitch for the parking sensors ?
  3. Have you connected a permanent live feed to the module ?
  4. Are you sure that you have connected to the correct wire for the reverse light?
  5. Check that the connection for the left tail light is making a good contact.

The kit i have used is a dedicated kit for the car which uses the CanBus.

I had to connect 2 wires to the OBD2 socket (pin 3 & pin 11 of the OBD2). Brown wire to pin 3 and Green wire to pin 11

Then i had to connect a Blue/Red wire to the stop light

These are the only 3 wires that connect to the wiring of the car.

I also had to connect 3 wires to the battery. One is the live for pin 9 and the other 2 are for the switch live pin 10.

It should all work using the CanBus system.

The kits are from ECS Electronics

So i found the ECS test info for the C2 module this morning and did the checks.

When connecting pin 7 to pin 14 i got power at the socket and the same for pin 8 to pin 14.

Also the CanH and CanL reading are within spec as told.

IMO there can only be 2 reasons why i'm not getting power to both pins 7 & 8.

1st is there is a fault with the C2 module and the 2nd is the Can-Bus is not sending a signal for them.

The c2 only draws a small amount of power just for a signal to tell the C2 to power the pins on the 13 pin socket when needed.

I have managed to sort ForScan to now read all the car modules. The are no fault codes and there is nowhere in ForScan for me to test the Can-Bus signels to pin 7 & 8.

I have sent an email to ECS tec support outlining what the problems are i am having.

I am starting to wish i went down the route of just using a TEB7AS & TEC3M relays.

EDIT..

I have just had a thought, Are the reversing light on the car ment to stay on when a trailer/caravan is connected to the 13 pin socket ?
