First Ever Ford Have I Messed Up

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my name is Dave. I am from Wirral and have just bought my first Ford. I did share an old 1994 Fiesta 1.0 with my mum when I passed my test in 2000 but it was never mine. I had to go auto as my left knee is knackered from years of abuse.

Anyway I've just picked up a lovely 2103 Kuga 2.0 Titanium X AUTO! 83k FSH in white and the wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey home, the long way.

I asked a mate of mine, who used to work in his dad's garage, what the gearboxes were like. He said they had a bad rep but he'd owned a few and they'd been brilliant. Soooo I pulled the trigger and bought one.

I get home this evening and have a beer and start googling transmission service intervals etc and stumble upon masses of bad info about these powershift boxes. Is there anything I can do to prevent/prolong it's life so we get as long as possible out of it.

Change the fluid, often

Keep the main 12v battery in very good condition, Powershi*ts do not like low voltage

Remove all the earth points from the chassis in the engine bay area, especially main battery and LH chassis leg under airbox, clean to bare metal, grease and refit👍

Keep the software in the PCM and TCM up to date

Agree, 14 years and 120k in (including towing all across Europe) and it's still OK BUT has had oil and filter changed every 3 years.

Never had a software update (always worked well, didn't know there were any)

My usual recommendation for oil and filter:

And, for changing:

Tear old filter apart and look for contamination (plastic bits would be a mega concern):
This is normal?:

Guys, that's great advice. Thank you very much.

Oh, and don't hold it on a hill etcetera in creep mode, always keep your foot hard on the brake pedal until you want to pull off👍

Ah OK that hadn't even crossed my mind. I will learn to do this!

I bloomin love it at the moment. 🤞
