Throttle delay

Featured Replies

Hello. Have bought my first Fiesta. 2010 with the 1,6 95hp diesel. When I accelerate and let go of the gas. The rpm takes more time to go to idle than Im used to. This courses the car to " drive "  for it self , and takes longer time before it starts brake on the gears.  This also makes the ride a little bumpy when I let go of the throttle. If I rev the engine in neutral/ clutch in. The rpm drops right/away, or cuts the fuel.  Only a delay of fuel cut off when it has been in gear, and let go throttle.   Here is a link to video. At 3000rpm i let off throttle , and clutch in. It stops at 2000 rpm for maybe 0,5 s*x before idle. Other times it can do that at 1500 of rpm. Depends on the rpm of the engine when I let off throttle.  The oil light is only a service reminder I have not reset yet.  Any ideas of this is normal/ or what I can check?

Thanks.

Hi Kenneth,

This is tentative as I could be wrong, but have a couple of thoughts.

There may be an emissions reason for the revs not simply dropping straight to idle when you put the clutch in (maybe a particular emission might be increased if the revs just dropped).

My other thought is: I used to own a 2011 econetic 95hp and after a software update it was noticeably smoother when stepping on / off the gas. So it could be worth checking if any software update is needed.

🤓

The revs drop, for emissions and fuel economy, to what the revs should be once you're in the next gear, for smoother driving. "Rev matching"

Just change gear

What the heck is that orange oil light??

I'd be more concerned about that

Oh that?

Nothing to worry about, just means there's no oil left in the engine 🤣

Its clearly stated in my thread the oil light is just for not resetting the oil service 12 month interval.

So you are suggesting that the rpm should lag before reaching idle, its normal Ford?  The issue is when i release the throttle, clutch still out, the car drives for it self for 1 sec because the throttle hangs/ dont cut the fuel right away. No way this is from factory.

It is also like this when not pressing in the clutch= the car takes 1 sec after releasing throttle , until it starts to engine brake.

Set up on FORScan and see what's happening then.

Throttle demand

Throttle actual

You may need to clean or replace the throttle body or pedal

Hi again Kenneth,

Yes i understand  - my 2011 econetic did something similar but after software update there was less of a delay if remember rightly.

Then according to Ford, and the Ford Fiesta Owners Handbook you are clearly mistaken as to the functionality of this warning light. It is the 'Fuel in oil warning lamp'

See page 61 of the Fiesta owners handbook:
