Looking at purchasing Low mileage 2.0 litre 2008 C-Max titanium auto. I’ve asked a question on a ford Facebook group, all but one said it’s a decent box in that year except another is insisting it’s a powershift.

I’ve given my self a headache researching, maybe a silly question but can I tell from the gears selector? Or is there another way.

The words "Power Shift" is usually a bit of a give away

It is a conventional torque converter 'box on those.  4F27E.

Not sure I'd call it a decent box though.  More reliable than Powershift, but terrible on fuel and only 4 speed so high revs on the motorway.

For time being I’ve walked away as I found some surface grot and minor bubbling on the bottom of near side arch/sil which is a shame mechanical it’s perfect. But the asking price for its age I feel is too strong.

Yes, it's awful

Mom had a 2009 2.0 Focus auto, I think 15 MPG was the best she ever got out of it

My advice always is: plenty of other manufacturers offer automatic transmissions, some actually work👍
