Just attach something like a dog lead to the internal pull down handle.

The worry is that on an old model from 2000 you could pull the handle off. Or could it be your profile details are wrong?

Higher spec Pumas came with a power tailgate. I've seen a few posts about attempts to retrofit but not seen any success.

I have seen this, but pricey, though: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tailgate-2019-2024-Liftgate-Electric-L1TBS404C84AA/dp/B0FJ5JY3Z3

That's exactly what a friend has done for his wife. He bought a really broad 'dog collar' to widen the load and attached it to the boot handle, wasn't  a Puma though...

If it's like my Puma there isn't a handle to tie anything to, just a recess in the boot trim. Perhaps try a taller wife?

That seems quite advanced for a 2000 model 🤣

Well if the lead idea fails the OP could always get a small folding plastic step.

Yes, and when they have the boot shut, they can re-open it again to store the step 🤣

No imagination! Nearly close then chuck the step in and fully close it.

I have more concern about this little lady in her 70s teetering on a flimsy plastic step. Where are Health & Safety when you need them?
