No AC, airbag, outside temp, tailgate, park assist when hot

Featured Replies

I apologise if there is a post with a solution somewhere. Not sure if this is the same place as the ford edge forum but I have posted the issue there too.
I have a ford edge 2017 which I bought used back in November 2024. Not every single time but on most occassions when the weather is hot ( I guess the higher temperatures are worse) I get the following symptoms:
• No AC, options grey on touchscreen as well
• FCIM appears completely dead, no buttons will work BUT radio if already on from before can be controlled from steering wheel
• No external temperature displayed on touchscreen or IPC. Instead it reads "--"
•Airbag icon/light  on the dash
• Icy road icon/light on the dash
•Electric tailgate will not open
•Park assist produces malfunction error if button pressed to activate it
Interestingly, a few days ago, the sun was out from the morning. At around 8:30 I got in and same thing was happening. I drove a few miles with the windows down and the problem seemed to sort itself on the way; this has only ever happened once, weird. When I got back to the car after work though, which was sitting in the sun, the problem was back and stayed for the rest of the day.  Deleting DTCs did nothing. Maybe the attached log can help demonstrate my problem?
After reading posts on forums both about the ford edge and other models I thought maybe the FCIM may need replacing. When I disconnect it I can recreate all the symptoms except from the tailgate which works fine. This leads me to think it may be a connection issue somewhere which the heat triggers? Frustratingly, it is always when I really need to use the AC and instead have to stick to keeping the windows down on the motorway.
Has anybody come across this and found a solution? I want to avoid the bill from the local ford dealer if I can.
I have been to halfords to check the battery but they said it was good (see photo). Not sure if that check was enough or a different test is needed.
Can anyone direct me to the connections involved and their location so I can check them?
Anyone auto-electrically minded that can help point me in the right direction?
If it is of any use the part number of my FCIM is HM2T-18E245-ARA
Thank you

DTCs symptoms present 12aug2025.txt

This seems unlikely to be a battery issue although that test you had actually shows a voltage of 12.36V (around 70%) which is only fair, so yes the battery does need a 'Good Recharge'

I would suspect this is possibly a problem with one or more of the connectors to the BCM. It would be worth disconnecting them checking for signs of corrosion and at the same time give them a spray with contact cleaner.

Thank you for your reply.

Where is the BCM located? How do I get to it? Any preference/suggestion for what contact cleaner to get?

Well, checked all connections both on BCM and the power distribution box in the engine compartment. No signs of corrossion, sprayed them with contact cleaner anyway. Still not working. Starting to regret buying this car. Any ideas?

And I have found something else. The tyre pressurr monitor does not work either when the issue presents itself.

As I've said to many others before, they only last between 7 and 10 years before they have to be replaced.

Now regarding the TPMS. The batteries in all 4 of your 2015 cars wheels will be at the end of there life, so you may as well replace them all and do the job just once.

You programme them once they have been fitted and the wheels are back on the car.

Tyre pressure monitor actually works, car just needed to be driven for a bit after I had pulled the connectors. Thank you for your post though, I learned something new.

Update:

I finally got round to (CCA) testing the battery with a tester that was recommended to me. I have a photo of the result. I guess this means it is good? Any further ideas? Now that there is no hot weather there is no way to recreate the conditions to check if any solutions work; which is annoying.
