Vehicle won’t start after replacing the Harmonic Balancer

Featured Replies

2013 Ford Edge Limited Turbocharged Ecoboost 2.0L I was driving and harmonic balancer broke and power steering quit working and everything flashed on cluster panel had to drive it where it was safe off the road. Started one time to put in Neutral to tow got it home replaced the harmonic balancer and the crankshaft position sensor and tried to start it it sounded like it was turning over then nothing wouldn’t start.Check engine light is on and it’s showing code P1299 can anyone tell me what I need to do for it to run again pls?

What's the harmonic balancer when it's at home?

P1299 is overheating warning

harmonic balancer

Sounds like a crankshaft pulley with rubber insert to me so work done around crankshaft sensor area which is suspicious.
But, as usual, have the codes and live data been read with Forscan to see why it's not starting?

It put it in a fail safe mode do you think it is a coolant thermostat sensor

Let's not get into guessing and changing parts in the hope that something will eventually fix it, or not!
If it went into limp mode, that is usually due to a fault that the ECU considers serious and may clear when ignition is tuned off and on, until the fault occurs again.
Forscan is our preferred tool  - cheap scanners may not register Ford specific codes.
Codes MUST be read when the fault is actually present (no use taking it for a code read when the fault isn't there)!
Yes, it could be overheating - what does the temperature gauge say?
Better to record the current fault codes, clear them and then see what comes back when it won't start.
After that it will need a diagnostic test session (NOT just a code read and change the component that is listed) to actually test any sensors wiring etc that is indicated.
If the harmonic balancer really means crankshaft pulley and the (delicate?) magnetic disk that triggers the crankshaft position sensor, that is still the biggest clue to me but without a proper code read and investigation (auto electrician/experienced diagnostic guy or gal) then speculating is pointless.

aw-shucks, I wanted to have a guess 🤣
