Ford Edge Ecoboost Coolant loss

Featured Replies

Looking to find out how many other ford edge EcoBoost owners have had issues with coolant loss. For me this started ar around 61000 miles, 2016 manufactured in ontario canada, imported to the UK. Dealer changed water pipes, changed water pump and cambelt, now being told to inspect cylinders and head gasket, with possibly engine replacement. Car can drive, its just loosing coolant and then overheating particularly on motorway.

Sounds like it needs a pressure test, only do this when the engine is hot, but safe enough to open the expansion tank cap. Chances are it's a headgasket. Opportunity to do the wet belt if it has one, a few vids on you tube show problems. These engines are stressed to the max, and unfortunately things fail way before the 100,000 mark.

Surely you mean only open the expansion tank cap when the engine is COLD? Scalding hot water and steam can escape from an expansion cap if it is undone when the engine is hot.

Best not to do this yourself, get someone you really don't like to do it for you 🤣

They were correct the first time.  Best to do it when the engine is hot because that's when the metal expands and the cracks open up.  You do need to be very careful though.  Use gloves and/or a thick rag for example.
