C-max 1.6 ti vct 105hp any good ?

Featured Replies

hi folks need to replace my old citroen picasso 05 plate 2lt diesal

just seen there is a ford C-max 1.6 ti vct at auctions next week low mileage (with all mots) 70kmiles 13reg

are these 105 hp under powered ?

it will be our second car mainly used for towing a trailer to the dump, picking up firewood & timber etc

I believe you can take out the rear seats just like my old picasso ( just flip& unclip)

don't know if there is any service history (reg no YH13OZO)

There's quite a long discussion of this on another thread (which typically I can't find at the mo!).

My short answer would be yes, though I guess it depends on the driver and the use. My preferred engine in a C-Max would be a 2.0 TDCI.

If you really are just intending to use it as you suggest though, it'd probably be fine.

I was a bit disappointed with that aspect, tbh and found mine quite awkward. I didn't really find it more useful than a previous Mk 2 Focus, though my wife liked the higher seat. I'd see if you can give one a try and see what you think.

A few long standing advisories on MoT history:

my old picasso is a 2.0 turbo diesa, but its pre DPF controls so works well for me as It rarely goes more than 5-8 miles before I stop to do jobs/drop off or pick up stuff etc so regen of dpf would never happen

see on MOT history its mostly tyres each time

the P1 for me is removeabe rear seats, got used to the old Picasso where I can have all the rear seats out and in my garage in 2 mins, when I take the front passenger seat out I can get 3mt+ lenghts of wood in, easy to get in 8ft x 2ft sheets etc

Sounds good.

Another thought but not from personal experience. Friends of ours used to run an "antiques" business and carted a lot of stuff around in first a Renault Kangoo, then a Citroen Berlingo, both pre-DPF diesels. Don't know about the seat removal, but might be worth a look.

Incidentally the C-Max manual has a well illustrated section on seat removal etc which would give you a good idea of how easy/difficult it is. Download one here:

In my opinion the 105 HP C-max 1.6 TI-VCT Petrol engine is severely underpowered.

Even a Focus with this engine is considered underpowered, let alone a car that’s 180 kg heavier like the C-Max.

Especially if it is going to be used for towing. The relative low torque of this naturally aspirated engine makes it less suitable for towing.

Balsa wood I hope?  Certainly don't want to add anything heavy to a 105ps C-Max!

if i was buy a newish car i would go for the 1600 petrol Belingo or peugeot one (same car) but the 1600 petrols are hard to find unless you are willing to pay (and I'm a cheap guy)

as said I don't do the miles needed by the post 2010 diesals to carry out regen/engine cleans so its got to be petrol

I don't like all these souped up petrol turbo engines, just see them as waiting timebombs cashwise

wonder if there are many of the 125HP 1600cc petrols around ?

as I said it is coming up at the auction so thought I'd ask,

but as said maybe a bit under powered for what i need

torque on my pic  150  torque on the 105hp c-max is 107 torque
