Hi, I have a slight problem with my Ford. It’s been fine all week and then all of a sudden the other night I left a friends house and I noticed that there was white smoke coming out of the back of the exhaust so when I got home I explained it to My Dad. And my grandad, they both had a look at it. My coolant level was quite low so topped up the coolant level restart the car then there was no white smoke went to work in it this morning and noticed a little more white smoke have came back home and my grandad tried looking around the engine bay to see what was going on my coolant level was still the same. My Dad got it in and booted it  down the road and loads of white smoke come out then I left for work just a minute ago and there was no white smoke if anyone could please help me point me in the right direction I’m thinking head gasket but not too sure maybe thinking it might be the turbo any help would be much appreciated

Is this the first winter you've had the car?  It's normal to get steam coming out in the cold weather, and it's even more noticeable at night in headlights and streetlights.

If the coolant hasn't dropped then that is a good sign.

Yes this is my first winter with the car I have left it running on the drive today and the temperature gauge just goes up to 4 doesn’t go any higher and then under low revs there is no white steam on high revs that’s when it comes out and it’s like steam it doesn’t smell like a oil. I’ve put my hand over the exhaust. It’s like a sweet smell.

Sounds pretty normal as Tom says.

It's yet to top 1°C here today, so lots of white smoke about this morning, including from my car!
