Both USB ports not working

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m looking for a bit of help. I found this forum while searching on Google.

I’m having issues with both USB ports in my 2020 Ford Fiesta with SYNC 3. The problem started about six months ago, when the USB ports would stop working on and off. Some days they worked, and other days they didn’t. Now, neither USB port works at all.

I’ve tried two different phones, several charging cables, and a USB pen drive — none of them get any power. I’ve done a factory reset of the SYNC system, disconnected the battery for half an hour, and checked all the fuses. The head unit, Bluetooth, and cigarette lighter all work perfectly. I’ve also checked the USB ports for dust or damage, and everything looks fine.

I’ve spoken to a couple of garages, but they said they don’t have the knowledge or time to fix this and that it might need to go to a main Ford dealer.

Does anyone know what the issue could be, or can recommend a garage near Glasgow that has the tools and experience to sort this?

cheers

Try vacuuming them with a brush attachment and only use genuine cables. Ask someome else to try their cable and phone you never know!

Hi, thanks for replying to the post. I’ve tried two different phones, about ten different cables, and even a USB pen with music on it, but nothing is working.

I have also tried cleaning the ports, its like both ports are getting no power.

I have a ford S-Max and had electrical issues with central locking, mirrors, fan heater, key control and USB ports not working. I took it to a main dealer and they said all was fixed so collected it.

I discovered 3 days later the USB ports were dead although the light was lit up around the ports.

After taking it back to main dealer they said the wires behind the usb had fused together and they showed me the photo.

In the S-Max the wires go from the usb to the apim at the back of the screen.

The usb ports could have got an overload from something. Sorry for the long post but it's difficult to advise.

The dealer for me says the sync module (Display module) needs to be replaced but they're still unsure.

I'd suggest find some auto electrical garage with a good reputation. A dealer will cost heavily...
