Can't find reliable infos on the C-Max engines

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm looking into the engines that equipped the C-Max (and Grand C-Max), and I can't find reliable information. Some people say that the 1.6 duratorq engines have the twin camshafts, with the 7 mm belt, others that it's single camshaft. The same goes for the 1.5 duratorq version, some say it also has a twin camshaft, known to break up until they put a larger chain, but years do not match from one post to another. Also, I can't really tell the difference between the 1.5 and 1.5 ecoblue version. I don't understand if the 'ecoblue' one is a just a commercial name change, or if it has technical differences. Also, there seems to be AdBlue at some point, but again, I'm struggling to find reliable info, people usually don't tell where they got the info and so on.

So I don't know if anyone could help me clarify all this, what was on what vehicle when, and if there's a guaranteed version where there is the 8 mm belt between the twin camshafts.

Thanks in advance !

2004-2010 - 1.6 Duratorq - twin cam (No chain issues)

2010-2015 - 1.6 Duratorq - single cam (Most reliable)

2015-2018 - 1.5 Duratorq - single cam (Fairly reliable)

C-Max never got the 1.5 EcoBlue engine.  The C-Max was discontinued before EcoBlue engines were fitted.  In the Focus, the 1.5 EcoBlue was fitted from 2018 onwards.  They are twin cam and fitted with the chain that breaks regularly.  Adblue was only added in 2020, several years after C-Max production had ended.
