Water leak no visual signs

Featured Replies

Good afternoon. I have 2018 Edge vignale. Still loosing water or evaporating very slowly ( topped it up 6 weeks ago now down between low and correct level). I've got a 2.0 litre duratec engine.  Had it pressured tested hot & cold. No visual signs of coolant leak anywhere on the engine. No signs off water in the oil. Fitted two new expansion tank caps. I only done this incase the first one was faulty (only £9.00 ☺). No sign of white smoke from exhaust. Temp gauge reading correctly. Not losing of power. M.P.H on local 38/40.

Is the above indicating to the egr cooler started to malfunction? If not can you point me in the right direction 🙏 getting annoying now ☺.

Thank you for your help once again Scooby.

Just for reference, this must be a 2.0 Duratorq.

Duratec was the brand name for petrol engines which weren't fitted to the UK Edge.

Edit: Ok, forget what I said, it was your post I commented on. Did you try some rad weld type stuff?

Tom Focus mine is a diesel. More I read the signs show it may be the egr cooler.

I just wondered if this is a common fault with the duratec 2.0 L engine in Fords?

There is no such thing as a Duratec diesel.

If you search for 2.0 Duratorq, or 2.0 TDCI, you should find more posts on these.  The 2.0 Duratec is a completely different engine which could be skewing your results.  I wouldn't say it is a common fault, but we do see a few break.

No need to fight over their engine type, he's said it's a 2.0 diesel in a 2018 Edge, so we all know what the probable leak is, and they have probably nailed it as the EGR cooler plastic warping and the gasket weeping. But it may be something else, even as basic as a poorly fitted coolant cap allowing evaporation, I couldn't say what it was really is without the car in front of me but those are certainly where I would start unless it looked like this Kugas thermostat...

Who's fighting over the engine type? 🤔

So it could be either a 2.0 Duratorq OR a 2.0 EcoBlue.  Two very different engines.

What it can't be is a 2.0 Duratec.  If they're searching online for the EGR cooler on a 2.0 Duratec, they will not be seeing the correct information for this car.

OK, so you've shown the type of commenter you are, well done.

But on topic,

When the leak check was done was it left with pressure in for a time period e.g. 1 hour after which EXACTLY the same pressure was read?

Has a "Sniff" check of the coolant been performed?

If you can, look all around the engine for pink crystal deposits (I presume your coolant is red), checking all gasket areas, water pump, core plugs, thermostat and EGR cooler, also if possible, whip off the boost hoses and see if they are wet inside.

Can I just check who you are talking to ?

@Scooby-do last visited the forum 27th November, so I would assume the problem is either (a) not considered urgent. (b) has by now, been resolved and the case is closed.

You seem to have suffered some kind of personality change between July 2023 and your recent reappearance.

All the comments was useful. Changed EGR cooler valve and put a new expansion tank cap on aswell. Seems to have cured the problem. Sorry for spelling my engine wrong. You got the jissed.

Keeping my eye on the water level though.

Kind Regards Scooby
