2020 Fiesta Heater / Air Con Fan not working

Featured Replies

Hi there everybody.

Yesterday the fan on my 2020 Fiesta has completely failed.

Previously the last time I drove it I remember a slight smell of something getting hot in the car but all was well and the fan ran ok. (Smell was a bit like bread baking)

There are no warning captions on the Info panel and everything else seems to work ok.

I am aware that some fiesta's have a four speed fan and a Resister which burns out now and again but my car has a seven speed fan and I'm not sure if my car uses the same resister arrangement?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The resistor is more complex on the Mk8 Fiesta.  It contains some electronic control so so is very expensive.

If the resistor was overheating I would expect it to blow the fuse, so that would be worth checking next.

Hi Tom

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I've just had a look at the link you sent, you're right its expensive for what it is:- £210

I think I'll try and get a second hand one or maybe a pattern part, Haynes manual is on its way so at least I'll be able to locate the damn thing on the car and find the correct fuse.

Again thanks for the info, I'll do an update when I have more to share.

Best Regards

The Haynes Manual turned up. After trying to find an overall wiring/Interconnecting diagram for the heating/air-con system I was resigned to making up my own interconnecting diagram from the individual component diagrams. (not impressed at all).

After a lot of head scratching, I deduced that the fan motor speed control is by a PCM Semi-Conductor pack controlled eventually by one of the vehicle serial busses and located down in the passenger footwell. Great...

As it happened, just after doing my research, the weather warmed up a bit and guess what, the fan started working again and has been working ever since.

Incidentally, the burning smell I thought that might be bread baking turned out to be from the Washer Fluid?

Usually Washer Fluid smells of detergent or flowers but not this stuff, it stinks......

Changed washer fluid, no more bad smells or bread baking.

All in all, a result I guess.
