hi,  just bought a C-max that only has 1 keyless start fob, are these keyless fobs avaialbe from ford dealers only or can I get one and programme myself or do i go to a car key progammer to get it sorted

It depends on the age of the C-Max.

If it is before 2013 then it may be possible to buy a keyfob from the likes of eBay and programme it using FORScan (with a full licence) and a vLinker FS cable.

If the car is after 2013 then it is really a Ford dealer job, although some people claim to have managed.

its 2011 so hopefully don't need to pay main dealer

years ago I would have solved it myself, but age has over taken me and everything seems hard to do

How do I find out what hip is in my smart fob ?

looking on ebay they show a few different chips ID47/ID49 ID83 Chip.

on the c-max 2011 smart fob shoud it be ID83 chip ?

If you open it (as if battery change was needed), is the identifier on any of the chips?

can't see any of the ID numbers on the chips

But I'm old and my eyes are going fast

I think it's hidden under the emergency blade. I know there is text underneath it, just can't remember whether chip info is there.

my case is blank, no writing at all

this is getting more like I'm going to have to pay local guy £160☹️

i wonder if forscan would show what chip my Proximity key is ?

just ordered the Vgate vLinker and will get forscan (paid)

Not sure whether Forscan does show it. I'm very surprised there's no writing on your case though. I wonder if that's already been replaced once and not the original.

I've just found this picture on ebay showing the writing I meant. Though I must admit I can't see the chip ID now anyway.

I would think that my fob is a replacement case at least as not writing inside it

I think I will get a ID83 chipped Fob as seem to show as C-Max 2010 onwards

lots of the write ups on the ID47 chips read as 2015

As you say, probably worth trying the cheaper route (ask supplier to not send if the product obviously won't work?)
I have had a couple of issues with e-Bay suppliers, if that is what you are using, and quality recently and whilst Amazon can be more expensive, their returns policy may be better.
Please let us know how you get on as our 2011 may need a new fob at some time!

Update Folks

I can confirm Paid Forscan did programme key less fob for C-Max 2011

watched few Youtube vids then followed the Forscan promts on screen, (RFT keyfob) got the cable & fob from ebay (that's my goto place)

Fob was Smart Remote Key Fob 433MHZ ID83 Chip 3B

Forscan asks you to put Fob into the slot (my c-max its in steering column) then asks you to press fobs unlock button (which you can't do as its in the slot, I pressed the tailgate button as that is outside the slot) after it said done,it appeared the fob didn't work, I switched ign on/off a couple of times trying fob to lock/unlockdoors it worked, also it does allow me to start the car on the button

Cost around £60 = Forscan paid, Cable, Fob, better than £140 key man wanted,if he had said I'll charge you £80 I would have maybe said yes

next thing is to find door key code as I don't have a key (in case fob's stop working

last update lucky the old fob has the key in it,and it unlocks/locks the drivers door what luck

will get a copy key cut next week
