Door Striker Etc To Make Doors Seal Better

Featured Replies

hi all, first few weeks of having a C mx, so lots of questions

drivers door does not seal tight at the top corner, maybe 2-3 mm movement

with the door closed I can move the door inwards 1-2mm around latch height, ( all other doors are ok)

undone the striker plate screws and there is no movement ( Years ago the plate would slide a bit in all direction)

the latch mech also appears to have no movement

the only thing i can think is banging the striker plate "locking pin" to move it in slightly

but surely that's not right ?

Hmm, I think the striker plate should have some movement in it. The latch shouldn't.

I'd probably try tapping the striker once the bolts are loose in case it's just stuck.

did try that

will have another go in the morning, the screw is a tight fit in the strike plate so any movement must be on the piller side maybe a captive nut ?

I'd expect it to be a caged nut. Fixed cage to hold the nut roughly in the right place, but with the nut loose inside for some movement.

Maybe it's best to fully unbolt the striker to check before tapping it just in case it is a solid captive nut.

that's what i would expect

maybe the nuts need some lub, will take 1 bolt out and spray lub in to see if that givessome movement

took striker plate off it lookslike captive nuts, but no spot welds showing how captive nuts held in piller

lots of WD40 tapping screw with rubber hammer = some movement

put strike plate back on, taps with wood block& rubber hammer

door now better at the top but lower door moved too far in ( but i can live with that if the top stopswater leaking in

Wind the window down and bend the top of the door in. The window frame of the doors are not as solid as you think.

may try that later in week thanks

I've done that on plenty of cars. Put your knee into door card and give a short snatch inwards.
