AM & DAB reception is awful any suggestions ?

Featured Replies

hi (new car---well to me) 2011 c-max titanium so its got lots of stuff I'm trying to figure/sort out

radio wise FM works, AM hardly any stations and its almost unlistenable, DAB picks up northing at all

is the reception all from the rear roof aerial do the normally good bad ?

what is the big box that the rear view mirror is part of ? Sat nav?

any suggestions folks

also sat nav wise my one doesn't have sd card, so its ebay (is that right ? ) the files can't be copied ?

We just use FM.
AM is poor quality, last century, outdated technology.
DAB we have found is OK when it's good but just drops out - great idea but doesn't have the coverage and feels like it has stalled?
"Big box " on ours is rain sensor and maybe for auto headlamps light sensor?
No idea on built in sat nav (expensive?) we just use separate Tom Tom or app.
Check the handbook.

I didn't know AM was still broadcast!

Sat nav on this car will be pre-Sync. The cards are around £20 on ebay. (Confirm with any seller before buying). FORD MFD SD CARD NAVIGATION GPS MAP 2022 SAT NAV MAP UK + EUROPE KUGA FOCUS | eBay UK

Box on windscreen depends on which options are fitted to your car. Rain & light sensor at minimum for a Titanium. Other options include a front facing camera for Traffic Sign Recognition & Lane Guidance and lidar for Active City Stop & Adaptive Cruise Control.

Still a few, but reception is often poor.

AM, which stands for amplitude modulation, is the oldest form of radio broadcasting technology. Despite the growth of newer alternatives, it’s still in use in the UK, though services are limited and a

I find DAB comes and goes depending on location, and often notice the car has just switched to FM automatically.

found the sat nav card, so sat nav now works, so that suggests Aerial is ok, and DAB should work ?

Although both aerials are in the same mast, I think they're separate inside there. Worth dropping the courtesy light trim to have a look at the aerial connections as that's the easiest place to start.

*Edit - Just remembered 2011 aerial will be at the back of the roof, not quite so easy to access.

its a big strip down to get a look at the inside of the roof, trying to put that off if I can

Yeah, fair point. It was much easier on the previous model.

I'm not sure what else you can do though. I don't think you can test DAB aerials from the headunit with a multimeter as DAB aerials have to be powered in order to work. I might be wrong about that though.
