C-Max 2009 1.8 TDCI

Featured Replies

Hey,

My C-max has 192k miles on it and I started wondering if it's possible it's still running the same lower oil belt it came with in 2009. I also have no idea if it has to be replaced or if the older models came with a chain which I suppose don't need a change. Any help and tips are welcome to help me with the pressure it's putting me on at the moment🤒

Hi,

The chain was only fitted until January 2008.

I think it is very unlikely that a car built before January 2008 would not be registered for a whole year until 2009. So it is most likely your car has the wetbelt instead.

Wetbelts work ok on high mileage engines where the oil gets warmed up every day and changed regularly. It is definitely possible that it is still on the original belt. Though with such high mileage I would not be surprised if a previous owner had already changed it. Unfortunately there is no way to check. If you don't have reliable paperwork them we must assume it has not been replaced.

My car was first registered in 2008 june so i have no clue. Do you think it is the belt though?

There is more chance of it being chain if registered in June 2008. But we still need the build date to confirm as they were building them with wetbelts for 5 months by then.

The build month and year is part of the VIN number. 11th and 12th digits.

Hey, It is the 2008 July one 8D.

Also thank you so much for your help, I called the company that had replaced water pump and the dry belt 55k miles ago and they said that most likely it's with chain what they remembered. (It was 3 years ago)

Sorry, that can't be true.

A car registered in June can't be built one month after that.

Also a car built in July 2008 would almost certainly be fitted with a wetbelt.
