Forum Newbie: The Dreaded 'Wet Belt' :(

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, am new here so please be kind.

I come seeking knowledgeable advice, having been a Fiesta owner for near 2 decades now, my first one was a Zetec S 1.6 which I loved.

Since May 2018 ive had a Fiesta Titanium X 1.0 Ecoboost Powershift 17 plate, its Ford dealer serviced and MOT'ed every year, I do very low miles with only 18,900 on the clock.

As my car is getting ever closer to the 10 year mark, I am concerned about the 'Wet Belt' fiasco that seems to plague this engine, everyone seems to have a different opinion, from an inherit design flaw, to lack of servicing that causes it. So far (touch wood) my car hasn't run anything but perfect, I even treat it to a tank of the premium petrol once and a while in the hope it will keep it tip top.

But the 'wet belt' issue is starting to give me anxiety, I look after my car so well, I don't just want it to go EcoBOOM! out the blue. In the same breath I service it religiously at the Ford Dealer and don't do many miles so am I worrying about nothing?

Am so conflicted what to think, please share your wisdom.

Hi,

Low mileage wrecks wetbelts. You might have got away with it due to the yearly servicing, but I would still recommend that it's changed this year if you intend to keep the car for several more years.

If you'd be looking to change car within a year or two then I'd bring that change forward and let someone else pay for the wetbelt on this one.

Thanks for that Tom, I must admit I’ve been toying about getting a new car, just hard with the finances. Between a rock and a hard place. :/
