Buying a 2021 MHEV 125, reliability?

Featured Replies

I’m looking at buying a 2021 Fiesta with MHEV 125 with 30,000 miles on it.

Is there any reliability issues to be concerned about? The 48v battery?

48v batteries have proven to be reliable so far.

It's the 12v batteries that seem to have constant issues!

Hi, welcome.

We have seen some issues with the manual gearbox on Fiesta, Puma and Focus MHEVs.

As you are probably aware the engine has chain cam drive but retains a wet belt for the oil pump drive. This must be changed at10 years max and is an expensive job.

Notwithstanding the official 24 month/18,000mile service interval, annual oil/filter changes are a good idea, especially when doing relatively low annual mileage.

As Tom says, 12v battery issues are common on most recent cars especially for those of us doing low mileage and irregular use. If you don't already have them, a multimeter and a "smart" battery charger are good investments.

Plenty of threads on these points on this and other forums if you do a spot of Googling.
