Tyre pressure sensor

Featured Replies

Hi I’m a woman that has a question about the above . I have a Ford fiesta 3door hatch and I took it to tyre company today as the sensor has been going off once a week for the last 3weeks and when I checked the tyre pressure there has been one tyre that has deflated. I was told by the man at reception that I have a puncture but also I need two new sensors as the battery inside the sealed unit is very low . He showed me a new sensor and said the cost was £60 each. These weren’t Ford parts . I declined the fitting as I wanted to check out . I have looked on line and it’s a bit of a mine field with different prices. Can anyone tell me if they have had to replace and did they buy on line .

Been there and know its quite confusing.

Main problem is that the sensor electronic internals needed varies from car model to model, despite looking similar. You must confirm your car make, model, specification & year of m/f. (US & UK sometimes differ)

Then the sensor needs to have its own individual signal recognition programmed into it. But it may or may not be programmed before sale. Only a garage quality tool is capable of doing this, so best to buy a properly preprogrammed one.

It needs fitting into the tyre (£10-£15) and must then be pronpted to transmit its signal, whilst the car is in "learning mode" to accept and pair the unit with the car. Some cars are made to pair automatically, just by driving, whilst other vehicles need to be prompted to do so by applying an activator transmitter tool close to the sensor. These tools are available for about £7 but vary as to the sensor that they will activate. (again whilst appearing similar in external view) For the Ford Fiesta range the model required must be EL-50449 compliant. The method of putting the car into learning mode varies; usually involves an ignition switching sequence that is "simple" but seems very tempermental about the timing of the sequence actions!

After great frustration and some mistaken purchases, I found that a suplier INVIOST was helful, knowledgable and specialises in sensor supply, I suggest Google and make contact.

Their sensors (which I have fitted) cost £15 each. but are preprogrammed and actually work ! (unlike others purchased via E-bay)

which year is the car? £60 each is a little high. fittings is about £10-15 as mentioned by FSTA1. I wouldn't recommend ebay ones. they are cheap for a reason. often dont work or batteries die super quick.
