P0430 code and EML, any tests i can do with Forscan etc

Featured Replies

Hi all

just had an P0430 error that has lite the EML, (had the P0430 code for a while but no EML)

The P0430 code means there’s an issue with the catalytic converter’s efficiency on the second side (Bank 2)

are there any test I can do with forscan to ry tosee if faut is the cat or an oxygen sensor, been on the forscan web site but they stopped any postings at present due to a DDoS attack.

c-max 11reg 1.6 petrol 125 hp

You can use the live data on Forscan to watch the readings from lambda sensors on both banks.

The readings should both be pretty much the same across the twin cats.

Unfortunately the labels are different on different on different ECUs.

Potentially something like HO2SB1S1. (Heated oxygen sensor bank one sensor one).

Then change just the numbers for bank 2 and sensor 2 to get all 4 sensors showing on the same graph.

When this code appears it usually is the cat at fault rather than the sensors though. There are several other fault codes for faulty sensors. If it's only showing a fault for bank 2 then there's a chance it's a rusty hole on that side of the cat pipe allowing extra oxygen in and tricking the sensor. If it's both sides then the cats are just worn out. You can try a can of Cataclean fuel additive to get a bit more life out of it.

had a little play this morning, don't understand what I'm looking at

Tests 12 march

O2S11 Volts .08- .83

O2S22 Volts .07- .83

O2S12 Volts .07- .83

O2S22 Volts .08- .83

Fuel trims running at idle

O2S12 STFT 99.22%

O2S22 STFT 99.22%

Longterm 1 -2.34

Longterm 2 -3.13

reading the STFT 99.22% info on net it says that if from rear catalytic sensor that 99% is right

At first glance, as the voltages are all roughly the same, that suggests the lambda sensors are not faulty.

I can never remember what the fuel trims should be so will leave that part for someone else to answer.
