Retrofit Active Cruise Control MK8 Fiesta

Retrofit MK8 Fiesta Adaptive Cruise Control

Parts Required, some part numbers you may have already so check.

FORSCAN IS REQUIRED AS WELL FOR PROGRAMMING

IPMA Camera: H1BT19H406CE (C* Model allows Lane Keep, Pre-collision and Traffic Sign Detection)
CCM Cruise Control Module: H1BT9G768AG
CCM Bracket: H1BT9G853AE
CCM Nuts: 1709798
CCM Bolts: 1445005 (these are HEX M5 x 18mm I bought my own much cheaper)
Steering Wheel Button: H1BT9E740DB (I found a cheap steering wheel £50 which had button fitted was able to strip it out)

Wiring harness, you can either make one yourself, buy a Radar sometimes with plug still attachedfrom ebay or buy a complete Radar Package from someone on FB/ Forums called Luca Scopece RS (This will save time and hassle).

If Making harness then you need the following wires.

RADAR to IPMA wiring Loom

1 – +12V - can go from any wire live when engine running OR - Pin4 on IPMA Camera (easiest)
2 – CanBus NEG - GY/BU – PIN 11 on IPMA Camera
3 – CanBus POS - BN/BL – PIN 3 on IPMA Camera
4 – GND - Any good Body Ground point several near headlights, bumpers etc.

Fitting

Bumper and front plastic crashbar cover removal, lots of videos on youtube for this but essentially pull back each FRONT wheel liner, one bolt at a 45 degree angle, a few plastic riv nuts under front edge of bumper and I think 4 plastic rivnuts and metal screws holding to where bonnet closes then it pulls off (leave 2 plastic rivnuts on top to help if you’re on your own)

Once front bumper is off, unclip plastic crash bar cover, insert the 4 special nuts into their holders, place the radar sensor and bracket through the hole in the rubber, push into place (2 plastic pegs) then bolt in using the four M5x18mm bolts.

Route the wiring below the active shutter grille if fitted, using zip ties or tape, route to the passenger side, up the side and through under the headlight, here you will see a couple of ground points you can use, undo bolt, put wires under and tighten back up, use a ring connector if possible and tape up or solder.

In order to get into cabin via existing loom grommet I removed the battery and the plastic battery holder, much easier and quicker in my opinion than struggling. Follow existing wiring loom from headlight, zip tie as you go, route it under the bonnet release cable in case you ever need to replace that! Finally make a small hole in the grommet being very careful about an inch or so higher than loom to avoid damaging wires, use a metal/ wire coat hanger to pull the 3 wires through, it will appear behind the glove box, route up and into the passenger LEFT corner, up into the side cavity and gently pull back the plastic covering, there is a curtain airbag behind it, route wires behind that so as not to hinder if ever needed, come across the edge of the roof lining and remove the 2 plastic cover from the IPMA camera behind rear view mirror, its just clipped in but a little faffy, either use the supplied adapter if you bought from Luca on FB or splice/ solder said wires into the camera loom. The back of the camera from memory has the pin numbers on or the back or the plug itself does. Refit everything.

Programming on Forscan – You will get DTC’s until all changes are made!

You may not need to all the programming depending on which camera you have, if you want pre Collison detection or not bothered.

BdyCM Module – Cruise Control – Adaptive Cruise Control

ABS Module – Adaptive Cruise Control – Present

IPMA Camera Module – Adaptive Cruise Control – Enabled & Adaptive Cruise Control Type – Radar Fusion

SCCM Steering Module – Steering Wheel Left Switch – H1BT-9E740-D* / anything else after this ok

IPC Module – Adaptive Cruise Control – Enable & Adaptive Cruise Control Menu - Enabled & Adaptive Cruise Control Switch – Enabled

Once above is programmed clear all DTC if you get any U codes then there is a programming issue, the last thing you may need to do is calibrate the Radar, in Forscan there is an option to do this, start it and follow instructions, drive for 20 mins at 30mph or above until it detects around 250 metal objects then it completes automatically and stops. Sometimes when changing IPMA this also resets calibrations so do that as well. When it gets to 100% press the stop button as its not automatic.

When pressing the cruise SET button you should now have a slightly different indicator icon and also you will see a grid line come up on screen, when a car is detected in front a car will appear, pressing and holding the left ACC button will change where the car sits, this is the gap between you and the car in front that the car will leave.

Check attached photos of IPC / Bumper fitting locations.

Any questions or issues with the instructions let me know below and I will amend (I did this retro fit over a few weeks so may have forgotten some things)

I'm quite happy with normal cruise - but that looks to be an excellent guide!

Nice to see someone posting an actual guide in the "Guides" section, too!😀

Oh you can switch, on the cluster menu there's a new option under cruise control, active or normal. I've also since enabled the intelligent cruise which I read is supposed to look at the traffic signs and automatically set your speed accordingly. If that proves to be any good I'll add it to the programming guide as haven't had chance to try the car much since yesterday.

Adaptive Cruise Control (If Equipped) - What Is Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control

What Is Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control

Intelligent adaptive cruise control combines speed sign recognition with adaptive cruise control to adjust the cruise set speed to the speed limit detected by the speed sign recognition system. For example, if the speed sign recognition system detects a 50 mph (80 km/h) speed limit, the cruise set speed is updated to 50 mph (80 km/h) +/- the driver's selected speed offset.

Note:   The adaptive cruise control gap setting operates normally.

I do use Intelligent Speed Assist on occasion, but the problem is the sign recognition system is not 100% - it can't read signs that are missing, dirty or hidden in bushes, and on the other hand it does read signs that are poorly located and not intended to apply to the road you are on. Treat with caution!

Oh thanks for that info I'll give it a go, I assumed that the front camera, sat nav and Radar would all work together when I had it set to fusion (sat nav) and IPMA camera it was pretty good, even picking up where temp signs were put up, if it's pants though I will be turning off, don't want to risk my clean license.

Have you heard of active lane assist ? With the Radar installed it's supposed to allow the car to drive or rather steer itself keeping in lane, I already have lane keep assist with nuges the wheel over if you wander a little but I think this might something else ?

I wouldn't necessarily go that far, but its not 100% reliable for the reasons mentioned - which is more the fault of our road network rather than the system itself.

I regard it a useful supplement to your own observation, but I wouldn't trust it with my clean licence either!

Active Lane Assist? - don't know, but they have Active Drive Assist on some US models which sounds like it, plus there's now this:

I've seen blue cruise on the news recently but this has been out for a while I think. I've just been out and the intelligent thing doesn't work, not sure how it's supposed to work so need to look it up and also make sure it's enabled in everything that it needs to be enabled on module wise

Do you have a focus ? How do I test the Intelligent speed thing is working, I have the options on the cluster to enable normal, adaptive and intelligent, when I turn intelligent mode on I gat a thing green arrow pointing from the traffic sign on the dash to the speed set symbol but it keeps me at say 42 in a 40 even if traffic symbol went to 30. I thought the car would have slowed me down.

No. Fiesta with just normal (not adaptive) cruise and intelligent speed assist, so can't help with the advanced stuff, I'm afraid.

My ISA doesn't slow you down suddenly when it detects a lower limit, it just lifts off the gas. Once its adjusted to the new detected limit it does keep you there (on the flat**). The ISA system in my car does let you select a tolerance of up to +/- 5 mph on the detected limit, which could explain 42 in a 40, but not if it thinks its a 30?

(**I've found you can easily exceed the detected speed downhill, as it warns in the handbook, though you do get the warning "bongs".)

If you haven't already got one, it might be worth downloading a handbook for the last Fiestas (2023).

My car did have speed limit and normal cruise before my radar addition but I was expecting the speed set display to change to whatever the speed limit sign was maybe that's wrong. I will read the manual and see what to do, I did look in my manual (paper copy) but didn't have much In there.

I guess the other thing is I've not been to work and done any driving all week so just testing on local roads in my town which is probably not the best idea.

I don't think I the intelligent part is working for me so may disable it, I made a video. You can see in the video that intelligent is turned on by the green arrow to the left of the speed symbol, I've got it set to 35 in the 30 and it's doing 35.. I then enter the 40 zone and you can see the symbol change, I go down a slight hill and car rolls it's self up to 37, once I get back on flat it gets down to 35 again, after 30 seconds you can see I have to adjust it manually to 40 as a car comes up my ***** behind me.

Seems you really need someone who has this system on their car to confirm how it actually works.

Not my thing, so not sure, but afaik Intelligent Adaptive Cruise was never available on Fiesta. It seems to be available on the current Puma as an option as part of the Driver Assistance Pack?

oh i haven't enabled evasive steering ( on the modules ), i wonder if that's why it's not working? One thing i have noticed with programming these cars if you miss something off a module thats required somewhere else you wont get any programming errors but the thing you want wont work! I had this with my auto park assist, i had missed something unrelated off the IPC or something and it wouldn't work.

Sadly i left my laptop at home charging so dont have it with me today!
