Issue with air direction actuator possibly? 2010 titanium

Featured Replies

Having issues with my Air system. The failsafe of it blowing out the de-mister is working, but nothing blows anywhere else.

I've popped the glovebox and I can see a blue bit of plastic with a hanging metal rod. I've added a photo to show what I can see.

Now my three jssues are

  1. What parts might have died here? I can manually move the rod, and the air will change it's flow.

  2. How do I even get to those parts?

So many issues to fix, but I'm getting there!

There is no failsafe. You're just lucky if it's failed on the windscreen setting. 😄

I can't tell whether the rod is still connected or not? It should look like this.

Rod is loose. Ah lucky I am, if you could call all of the parts I need fixing to be lucky lol!

I'll see if I can coax the rod back on and see if that fixes the problem.

Got the plastic thing back on despite the hot pipes down there being a pain.

Don't think it'll stay long term and will probably wiggle off.

Also I feel it's a bit hesitant to switch from got to cool, but isn't that a different actuator?

Yes, the temp control actuator is on the drivers side.

I've 3d printed a stubby holder for a standard bit and managed to get the one screw loose, but the other screw that's just at the bottom lip of the centre console panel is not possible for me to get to, What's the trick with this bit? Its the part to the left of the airbag panel. Totally baffled.

Another member had the same issue about a month ago. They cut a small part of the plastic panel out as far as I remember.

That was honestly my first thought. It's literally a few mm up from the lip. I guess I could just trim it! What's kept me from fixing the issue for so long is that dashboards are my enemy

Also wanted to ask, would you know what selects the temp? Is it just user input = certain actuator position? I've replaced the actuator, what an awkward one to do, but I got there. The heat seems to not be gradual and just comes out at one hot temp. Something is still not right. Could there be a faulty AC thermostat, or does that simply not exist?

There isn't a thermostat for this system. There's a cabin temp sensor. The user request gets checked against the cabin temp. If more heat is needed to reach the requested temp then the actuator moves the heat flap to blend more heat with cold air from outside. The actuator should have several positions to stop in, so you should get a graduated amount of heat from the vents (unless you select HI, in which case it ignores sensors and just provides max heat).
