Mk3 fiesta issues

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone help please.

I own a 1993 mk3 fiesta 1.3 automatic and I have a few issues

1st, when putting down force on accelerator there is a whistling kind of noise coming roughly from the drivers side wheel arch near or on rear of engine and coolant tank has bubbling effect in the coolant but car drives lovely and gets up to speed if not using to much force.

2nd , passenger side electric window not opening , neither passenger or drivers side buttons open it but drivers window works fine.

3rd, rear windscreen wiper not working.

4th, boot staying shut and boot button and key not opening it.

Hi,

Bubbles in the coolant tank is potentially a bad sign. Recommend getting a sniff test done on that asap as there's a high chance of it being the headgasket.

Passenger window could just be a failed motor. Need to access the motor plug to check whether voltage is reaching it.

Rear wiper could be a fuse (check handbook if you have one) or could be the motor there as well. On a car of this age I might just leave that inoperative. It's not an MOT requirement.

Not sure of the exact boot lock mechanism on a Mk3, but if the key won't work then you'll have to climb in through the back seats and remove the trim panel to access the latch mechanism.

Could also be a broken wire in the run from the body connector into the door.

Check for broken wires.

Put a direct 12v on the motor to confirm if the motor is working first

Dirty or seized terminal pins in the boot opening area, these stayed with MK1 Ka until the end so you may still be able to get them

Key worn.

Get a new key cut from the unworn master, if possible, or from the key's code.

Don't cut a new key from the worn key, it'll still be worn

Thanks guys, got window sorted, the cable was knackered so have corrected that, I've managed to get boot sorted and also the rear wiper. Now just waiting for some time to get the coolant tank bubbling issue fixed. Cheers

Have you tested the coolant for exhaust gas yet? That could be the reason for the cutting out. I really wouldn't be driving it in that condition.
