FORScan queries (adapters, bricking)

Featured Replies

Hi, I would like to use FORScan on Windows with my MK7.5 Fiesta 2015 to read DTCs as I understand it can read more modules and DTCs than a basic scanner from Amazon.

I would also like to change a few settings such as enabling cruise control and auto door lock.

There are many adapters online and I can see some recommended ones on the official website around £30 such as the vLinker FS and ELS27. What adapter is recommended and how do they differ from the cheaper ones around £10 from eBay such as an ELM327 adapter? What and why does "modified" mean on the ELM327 adapter? I can see some adapters have a switch and others don't, does this matter?

I'm also weary of something going wrong. Is it possible to brick the ECU or damage components? Is it possible to restore a backup? Do some USB adapters have a higher risk of bricking than others?

Using an Adaptor other than one of the ones that FORScan recommend to modify a car worth several thousand pounds for the sake of saving £20 is akin to shooting yourself in the foot.

"Modified" means it's been adapted and fitted with a switch to switch between high and low speed CAN

I would recommend the V-Linker or the OBDLink-EX, no need for confusing switches

I use the OBD-Link and have never had any issues

I would advise you only use a rekomeaned adapter, i use Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter for FOR-Scan HS/MS-CAN Auto Switch.

I have been using forscan for years and nether had any issues.

I bought a V-linker recommended by forscan and it's worth it and it also has that automatic switch. I recommend you read the forscan forum (for me it was difficult because I don't speak English but for you I don't think it's a problem) to avoid certain problems. After you get used to the program, only then can you get the paid license to enter hidden mode and activate or deactivate what interests you! Good luck!
