Ford Edge Duratorq wet belt or dry belt?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Ford Edge 2017 2.0 tdci duratorq.

I have been under the impression that this particular engine is a ‘dry belt’ as opposed to the ‘wet belt’ that was used with the EcoBlue engines (from 2019 onwards?)

The car has gone into limp mode on a couple of occasions when accelerating hard. I have taken it to the garage today who advised they have scanned the car and it is coming up with an issue with oil pressure and they believe it to be an issue with the wet belt.

I am now confused and wanted to see if anyone was able to help out. The majority of information online says a dry belt but some things then mention wet belt. I think it’s an issue with the oil pressure solenoid but this garage wants me to spend £400 to drop the sump and investigate, the warranty may cover it but I don’t want to be lumped with a bill just to investigate without solving. I’m more concerned about if it is a wet belt, then I need to stop driving until I get a second opinion from a different garage. I wasn’t that impressed with their attitude anyway .

Thanks

Hi,

You are correct. This engine uses a dry timing belt. Plus a small chain between the cams. And a small chain for the oil pump. There is no wetbelt.

I think you're on the right track with the oil pressure solenoid.
