Fitting Cruise Control Retrospectively?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Iv been phoning around ecu tuners n readers etc trying to find someone who can enable cruise control which is what I'm guessing all that needs to be done once I have fitted the new steering wheel with the buttons?

I have a 1.6 ford fiesta zetec s tdci 2010,

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Ross

we have been doing this on the peugeot forum im on, to be fair all we needed to retrofit cruise was the stalk (£15 without speed limiter) and someone with the dealership tool to activate it on the ECU and BSI. so i would say yes, once you have connected the 4 spoke wheel with buttons, it is just a case of activating with the ford dealership tool. but i tried this in my peugeot and the ECU was not compatable and would have to have an overhaul, along with brake and clutch switches so it know when you want to stop lmao

Well I went into dealership n they said it weren't possible but then I said why? And they couldn't answer me, I then said what ecu's are there for my car n they looked on the computer and they said the 1,6's have the same ecu, so I'm guessing the wiring is there just need steering wheel and maybe switches,

The steering wheel new is only 130 vat Inc which isn't bad?

Just waiting for a haynes manual to come out now

I have looked into this when we had a titanium in the shop. The list of parts was rather expensive.

Steering wheel.

Clock spring

BCMi

Coding

New clutch switches etc

And potentially new dash harness

Dont take this a gospel though

I can't see them putting a different dash harness between the different models of fiestas :/ whats a bcmi? clutch / brake switches is understandable

you could be very lucky in the fact that you already have all the switches...in my experiance on retrofitting, i have found car manufacturers use the same parts etc in their range to keep costs down, but deactivate options in the ECU and for the likes of Cruise control put a cheaper steering wheel in.

i would say fitting the steering wheel and activating it on the ECU and BSI will enable this function. you just need to take a dive (blindfolded obv) and try it.

i might ask if i can borrow someone steering wheel and take my car to ford and ask if they can activateit and see if it works

Ford technical are actually really annoying because they don't recommend modding a car after it was built they won't tell me what parts are different etc or if it's possible to add cruise control!! They seem to try and not be helpful,

Not happy bunny after the phone call was a waste of 2-3 quid IMO

ok spoke to a friend who works for ford, we had a quick look on the computer, the clock sprng is about 58 quid, and the steering wheel is 140 the brake and clutch spring are the same in a car with cruise control to thous in mine!

i need to go back down there ad find out if the clock spring is different? what is a BCMi when its at home? and as for enabling it in the ecu how would i go about doing that?

Body Control Main Interface or other words body control module

wiring harness are hand made there tailored to the vehicle there going in and wire colours and thickness/resistence can change weekly not like cars of old where one was the same as another

Oh and did i mention !!!kerching!!! on the price of one

your telling me that every model of the fiesta has a different wiring harness ?

as well as which has the optional extra's etc

I tired, i bought a cruise control steering wheel from eBay, and fitted , the button lights work, but all dead, i asked Ford to activate the ecu, but same. i think need to be done some wiring, like on my vw golf i retrofit it in 2hrs, change control, rewire 6 wires and activate the ecu, done...

Now i wait to get some wiring for the fiesta.
