Hi guys im new to the site as just bought a MK3 Y reg Mondeo 2.0 Zetec. Im well happy with the car. Just one quick qiestion though. My handbrake when applied on a hill will only hold the car when its almost touching the underside of the centre arm rest. I have noticed though, that when I apply and release the handbrake I can here something hitting the heat shield underneath the handbrake. Am I right in thinking that the cable is just loose and will need tightening from the adjuster on the seperater bar.

you are correct in think it may just require adjustment,but mk3 mondeos are also known for the cables stretching and the rear calipers seizing up which could also be your problem.
