Focus Electrical Problems

Featured Replies

Hi

I’m having problems with my 2002 focus. The central locking has stopped working. I can’t unlock the back doors from the inside or outside. The button for the boot on the dash doesn’t work. The indicators, intermittent wipers, rear wiper, heated front and back windscreen don’t work as well.

So far we’ve tried changing the battery in the key fob, resetting the key in the ignition, checked all fuses and relays.

After getting a Haynes manual, it looks like it might have something to do with the GEM box as they have a list of everything that is controlled by this box and I have a problem with all of them. Is it worth disconnecting the 5 plugs to reset the box?

If this doesn’t work is there anything else we could try?

Thanks

try disconnecting the battery for a little while, this is effectively unplugging everything :)

i would disconnet the battery as above and would check the connectors from the GEM unit to make sure the connector pins are not damaged in any way like water getting into them ect and then i would spray some contact cleaner on them if all ok! also if you have the wiring diagram would check for power and the earth to the gem module ;)

I did have a water leak a few days before the problems started but that was in the passenger foot well. If I disconnect the GEM I'm not going to damage anything or lose any of the settings?

isnt the gem module on the passenger side under the glove box? nothing will bw damaged if you unplug it, you might lose radio code though.

GEM UNIT what is this ?

Hi, can anyone help please? When I turn my headlights on, the light on the dash does not come on... I've checked the 10a fuses, but they're fine. Also... I'm sure I keep seeing it flicker now and then while I'm driving... Any ideas?
