Starter Kicks In Whilst Driving

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new here, I'm asking a question on behalf on someone I know with a Maverick. I'm not sure what year it is but it's fairly old and I think it's the petrol version. They had some electrical issues a little while ago, and then discovered that when the windscreen had recently been replaced it hadn't been sealed along the bottom and water had been getting in. Windscreen was replaced and the issues stopped but now it has a nother issue (may not be related of course) where the started motor kicks in whilst driving. So far it's done it 3 tims and stripped the cogs so needed a new starter fitted each time - they're basically getting fed up with it and considering just scrapping it. Now I'm interested in taking it as I do minimal miles (it's got 115k on the clock anyway) and need something bigger than my Micra for a while. So I'm wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this issue, and whether it could be an indication that possibly too much electrical damage has been done to warrant taking to car.

I do have full AA repair cover so if I did take it and then it did it again I could get any repairs paid for (if a garage could figure out the issue).

As the starter has/had been changed then I would think it would be a relay problem, not sure where abouts it is on the maverick though

Thanks, I'll check it out. Doesn;t seem to be a Haynes manual for them though :(

Did find out it's a 2002 2.0 Zetec
