Focus Speed Sensor How To Replace?

Featured Replies

focus speed sensor

Hi, I have been having a problem with my Speedo dropping and car cutting out on my ford focus 1.8 1999..I took it to the garage they gave me a free diagnostic and said the computer wasn't storing a fault code and told me it could be the gear box speed sensor an would cost £113 to replace and would not be guaranteed to fix the problem as there was no fault code they are unsure if this is the what is causing the prob..

after looking online line i came across how to access fault codes on the dash to display fault codes, I did the deal test and the car seems to not have a fault code, the DTS came up with NONE, today i reset the ECU and while driving the dash displayed - - - - - no numbers On the millage or trip meter, I restared the car with the dealer test on and now have 2 DTS codes - D123, D041.Can anyone confirm that it is my speed sensor that is at fault and is £113 worth paying to my garage as i have seen the part for £21 - is it easy to replace..

My mechanical knowledge isn't the best, the last time i did work on my own car it took me over 4 hours to replace the alternator lol.... If this is an easy enough DIY job can someone explain in detail how to replace the sensor, Many thanks Leigh.
