Ford Escort Alarm/starting Problem

Featured Replies

I hope this is in the right section.....Apologies if not...

Hi all I am new here and was hoping someone can help.

I have a 1996 diesel escort (good work horse) that has been standing for 6 months or so (Sorn).

It did start a few months ago..

I went to start it the other day and the battery was totally flat.

I got a mate to jump start me a day or so ago and when he connected his focus to the escort (for the jump start) the alarm went off and it would not start.

He mentioned that they have an imobboliser/key thing that may need to be done.

I have searched about a bit about this and it seems that there are programmable keys etc....

To do this you need the Red master key (Which i have)

So my question is What do i need to do to get it going again?

Do i need to do the key programming thing or something else.

Does anyone know the process for programming the keys???

Do i need a new key?

I have one black and the 1 red master key.

Is it something else i need to do to get it started?

Many thanks in advance...

Anyone Please???

  • 2 weeks later...

well the red key is used to reprogramme the black keys (with a little red plastic marking on the top) - you got a black key which i assume you always used to use to start the car - this sorts the immobiliser out so expect that the key is ok.

Not sure what the issue could be, maybe try removing the battery and charging it rather than jumping it??

Alarm maybe going off when the battery get juice as door open and stuff, you tried starting the car whilst this happens?? (stupid question as i would guess you have)

Only real suggestion is to try charging the battery and starting normally.
