Indicator Trouble

Featured Replies

Hi. Thanks for reading this.

I am looking for a little advice for my little sisters 2001 ford fiesta freestyle. She has got problems with her indicators and I am hopeing I can put it right for her. They take longer to start blinking than they should and I think that she needs a new flasher relay ( turn start relay) but dont know where to buy one from or what kind I need. I dont have the manual at hand and am only able to get to it after my trip to the shops so if anybody knows what I need and where to get it I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum mate,

If you open the bonnet, you will see a small rectangular box on the right hand side of the car (looking forward at the engine) it will contain fuses and relays for the car, lift the lid on the box and look under the lid, you should see a full diagram of the fuse box with labels for each relay and its purpose,

Take a couple of pictures of the relay on your camera phone, take note of the car model, engine size and year then go to the nearest motor factors or worst case go to Halfords, if you cant find any other Motorfactors  and show them the picture of the relay and details,

They will provide you with the part, then simply unplug the old and insert the new, swapping like for like, also endure the lid in secure on top of the box as if water gets in to it, The wipers start coming on by themselves, the horn can come on by itself etc. The car becomes possessed.

Hope this helps mate.B)

Looking for assistance. 2000 model Fiesta 1.3. Indicators and hazard flashers stopped working. Checked fuses, O.K. Bought a new flasher unit (1035579) from a parts shop, not Ford, and replaced it, in the steering column, still not working. Am I missing something? Or could I have bought a duff unit? Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Bulb(s) ?

  • 4 years later...

Hi there I have a fiesta mk4 facelift or early mk5 1.4-cvh. None of the indicators are working but the hazards are and I have checked the fuses and I have checked the flasher relay that's underneath the light stalk. Still not working is there anything else that I can do ? Or try to get it to work again ?

Please help coz it's not good driving without it

Is the cabin heater blower working and electric windows, if fitted?

  • 4 years later...

Is it ok to revive a thread if it's relevant to an issue I'm having? Apologies if not.

Mk4 Courier, same as the Fiesta, 2001.

I've having the same problem as the OP, indicators not working, but hazards are, and the bulbs all work ok. I've checked the relevant fuse, and it's ok too, and checked the rest of them as well, they're all ok.

I was particularly interested in what Dan62 posted above, asking if the cabin heater blower is working (I don't have electric windows), because the blower has stopped working at the same time, and one thing I noticed is that the fuses for the indicators and blower are side-by-side in the fusebox.

Anyone know what might be up? Thanks.

Yes it's fine. Someone always restarts this old thread every 4 years, it's a kind of tradition that goes way back to 2011 🤣

You probably would be better just starting a brand new post, perhaps in the Fiesta forum. My memory is somewhat hazy about the dashboard of a 24 year old Fiesta, it would help to post a few photos of the area around the hazard light switch.

I hadn't even looked at the dates, just the last one, found a relevant thread from a google search, and this one popped up at the top!

Anyway, I found where the problem is, I wanted to get a look at the back of the central fuse box, the one under the steering wheel, and when I unscrewed it, and got it loose, I saw 2 more relays on the right of this fuse box, and found that the front most relay is shot, one of the 5 pins melted. There is another relay behind it, same type, and I swapped it over to the front, and my indicators and air blower are back working! Went out to the motor factors, and have a replacement.

Only issue now is that the socket for the relay is a bit melted, so will have a look at it to see if these sockets can be replaced easily, or if I will have to replace the whole central fuse box.

Ok, had a better look at the socket and wiring behind it. One of the holes for the pin that melted and discoloured is in bad shape, looking at the wiring behind it, I can see green corrosion, so maybe it got wet at some point, and then degraded, and then the increasing resistance on that pin caused it to melt, and then eventually fail.

Haven't done any automotive electrical repair before: Looks like that wire will need to be cut back to good wire, and new added, along with a new connector.

Is the socket easily got? And can the good connectors be popped out? I've done work on Molex type connectors on PCs before, so hoping they're similar.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

get a socket and a bit of the wiring loom from a scrap yard.
