Aircon Always On!

Featured Replies

Hi guys Iv'e been driving my dad's focus (mk2) for a few weeks and noticed that the aircon is always on even though the button has not been pressed. I only noticed because the plastic around the vents by the windscreen had a lot of moisture and was ice cold.

I have a mk1 focus and never had this issue.

My dad always moaned about the mpg and I guess having the aircon always on had something to with it!

Anyone else have this issue?

Turn the airflow knob away from the windscreen position and the A/C should go off.

It should be detailed in your car's handbook about the A/c operating when in the windscreen position.

Yep. The aircon comes on automatically when it is on screen on all Mk 2s and 2.5s. This is to help clear it on winter mornings. I have to remember to press the button and switch it off everytime I switch the engine on.

Thanks for the replies, I never knew that! Would be nice if the aircon light would illuminate!

my dad has been driving the car for the past 3 years with the aircon always on!! lol I wonder how much fuel has been wasted.

The light should light up!!

I also found it strange that when moved to the window only on the dial that the aircon comes on - Not sure how does helps in winter though???

Not noticed the aircon switching itself off once moving the dial away from windscreen only though - maybe i've not waited long enough and just switch it off manually.

It doesn't switch off by itself. Not that ive noticed its always on and i always leave it on. As it gets misted up quick if i dont

With the aircon on you will clear any condensation from the screen that you may get on frosty mornings with it only on hot.

It is a bit pointless however if you have a quick clear screen but does help stop the rest of your car steaming up.

Mines always parked in the garage so both get rarely used.

Got to be one of the greatest inventions ever - the quick clear windscreen!!! Only wonder why ford don't stick the same element setup into the rear window rather than the normal ones every car has.
